What we can learn from Ashton Hall - a personal fitness coach - who became a media phenomenon

Ashton Hall
Who is Ashton Hall?
Ashton Hall has swept the internet off its feet — without saying a single word. Through dramatic lifestyle routines and cinematic content, he dares millions to become harder, better, and more disciplined.
From professional football to online fitness coaching, Ashton has always been keen on becoming physically and mentally strong. Although I could write an entire piece about how intricate his life has been, this is a newsletter about social media. So lets dive right into his metrics:
Instagram: 10.9 million followers 🏆
X: 53 thousand followers
TikTok: 5.6 million followers
In addition, he has been mimicid by numerous popular creators: Mr. Beast, Logan Paul, Basketball teams, etc. Now lets dive into why…
Account Overview 🕵️♀️
So what did Ashton Hall do to make him so famous?
He posts lifestyle routines that emphasize physical and mental health. For example, this is what a typical video looks like:
Wake up at 3:30 am mouth taped shut
Dump face in ice water at 3:50 am
Do hundreds of push-ups at 4:00 am
Journal at 4:20 am

You get the gist. Ashton’s routines aren’t just extreme — they’re engineered to be viral, aesthetic, and deeply personal. Regardless if you are a fan of his content or not, he has cracked the code.
Ashton’s Blueprint 👷♂️
Target Audience
Often the most important decision for any creator, Ashton made sure to choose his target audience with precision. His content is laser-focused on young men, particularly from teenagers to middle age adults. Usually who are either trying to transform themselves physically or craving mental discipline in a chaotic world.
Ashton embodies the archetype of the “modern alpha”. He doesn’t talk, doesn’t flinch, and doesn’t smile. Every video feels like a visual manifesto for high performance. All shot in cinematic quality, underscored with intensity, and packed with funny objects.
He knows exactly who he’s speaking to:
The kid scrolling late at night, hating the way he looks
The guy who wants to be harder to kill
The one who’s sick of softness and wants structure
Ashton doesn’t just target this audience, he mirrors them. He presents the version of themselves they want to become.
Engagement Tactics (X-Factor)
In today’s media world, engagement is often won in the edit. Adding captions to match your speech, cutting out the moments where you breathe in, and animating fun objects to recapture the viewer’s attention when they inevitably want to scroll.
The clear highlight of Ashton’s media is his stunning engagement tactics. He does everything in his power to force his target audience to watch his videos. He records with extremely high-quality cameras to make the videos look professional. He jump cuts every 2 seconds or so to keep viewers on their toes. He even includes satisfying sound effects now and then (like a knife chopping fruit or ice clashing together) to make viewers feel more locked in.
With his videos looking as pristine as possible, all he needs to do is capitalize on his target audience. As mentioned earlier, his main audience consists of the alpha, lifting community. So to draw them in even further, he frequently lifts weights in the gym, runs next to cars on the road, and eats protein-heavy meals. He often shows himself working as an online fitness coach — reinforcing to his audience that health isn't just a theme in his content — it's who he is.
Strategical Decisions
I’m sure all of you guys are asking the same question. How in the world is he able to do all of this while training and having a job???
Let’s keep it real: Ashton is an Instagram superstar — but he hasn’t fully committed to other platforms. On places like X or TikTok, he’s had less success (by comparison). Not because he isn’t capable, but because he hasn’t posted as much or for as long.
He made a strategic choice to zero in on Instagram — and it’s paid dividends.
Time To Steal 📝
Now that we have Ashton Hall’s blueprint, it is time to steal from it 😈.
Tactics | Ashton’s Blueprint | What we can steal |
---|---|---|
Target Audience | - Determine exact type of viewer - Determine exact age of typical viewer | X marks the spot - With whatever passion or idea that we pursue, we need to determine the exact demographic of a typical viewer so we can determine how to engage |
Engagement | - Based on his target audience, he created all of his content to pitch to them - Video editing. He constructs each video like a movie with the quality and targeted messages | Grab your popcorn - Instead of letting our ideas direct or “find” our audience, we need to purposefully attack our audience with our ideas - I wouldn’t necessarily say that we must edit each video to that level, but it is clear that editing can and is a massive advantage to excelling at social media |
Time efficiency | - Less is more | Lets be realistic - Lets kill one platform instead of dying trying to keep up with all of them |
Final Takeaways ✅
Storytelling is the most important aspect to social media:
Who are you telling the story? Why is your story compelling? How committed to your story are you?
Less is more:
I have noticed throughout my years in media that the best creators establish themselves on a singular platform. By doing this, it allows them to be time efficient and get out quality content at a mass scale. As a bonus, they can then leverage that platform to boost others.
Never give up:
It took Ashton Hall years of dedication and faith to become who he is today. Even during long stretches of media failure, he kept going. He showed up. He posted. He refined. Many of us may not resonate with the exact ‘alpha’ mentality he imposes — and that’s okay — but that doesn’t mean he’s wrong.
You don’t have to tape your mouth shut at 3:30 a.m. or dive into a bowl of ice water to learn from Ashton Hall.
Thank you so much for reading. I know how busy all your lives are and appreciate you giving me the time of your day.
